Day-by-Day Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival & Transfer to Volcanoes National Park (Kigali → Northern Province)
Arrive in Kigali and enjoy a scenic drive through Rwanda’s rolling hills toward the Virunga Mountains. Check in to your lodge in Musanze, surrounded by breathtaking volcano views and lush highland landscapes.
Day 2: Gorilla Trekking Adventure (Northern Province / Musanze District)
Begin your day with an early morning briefing before venturing into the misty rainforest for a once-in-a-lifetime gorilla trekking experience. Spend an unforgettable hour observing a gorilla family in their natural habitat—a true highlight of your Rwandan adventure.
Day 3: Golden Monkey Trek & Cultural Immersion (Northern Province / Musanze District)
Embark on a morning trek to observe the playful Golden Monkeys in Volcanoes National Park. Later, immerse yourself in the local culture by visiting community farms (pyrethrum and Irish potatoes), traditional handcraft markets, and guided nature walks with local freelance guides.
Day 4: Explore Burera, Nyabihu & Gishwati–Mukura to Rubavu (Western Province)
Travel through Burera District to visit Rugezi Marshland — Rwanda’s main water reservoir and a symbol of environmental restoration — then the historic Ntaruka Hydropower Plant and Twin Lakes. Continue via Nyabihu’s lush tea plantations and explore Gishwati–Mukura National Park for a guided forest walk before arriving in Rubavu for an evening by Lake Kivu.
NB:
If any day’s activities feel too full, you may rest and continue the remaining experiences the following day before proceeding to Rubavu. You may also choose to hike Bisoke, Karisimbi, or Muhabura volcanoes depending on your fitness and preferences.
